Evaluation of Pediatric Anesthesia Trainee Performance during a Simulation Intervention Involving Intraoperative Neuromonitoring

Michael Sikora, MD, MEd
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center

Changes in intraoperative neuromonitoring potentials measured during scoliosis surgery correction represent acute emergencies due to risk of neurologic injury. Identifying the etiology of changes and executing corrective measures requires effective interdisciplinary communication. An in situ simulation environment coupled to an evaluation checklist allows care providers to practice communication and reflect upon team successes and failures.
